Work-related projects

This is a collection of all the projects I have worked on that were interesting to me and eventually had something to do with the creative process of game design.

I have published some of the assets made for Stressjam in 3D. Press the 'Stressjam Assets' button to have a look at them! 

To add to the Stressjam project, they got awarded 'digital innovation of the year' in 2017 and has been nominated for the 'Accenture innovation awards' in that same year.

Overall I had a great time working on the game and am stoked to see where it will go in the future!

Stressjam is a serious game made by Jamzone. I worked as a 3D artist on this game from 2017 to 2018 and for this project, I had the artistic freedom to create handpainted assets, just the thing I wanted when I started my game design study. I took every asset as if it was my own project, being mindful of the workflow and making sure it fitted the already existing style. From miscellaneous assets, I worked towards eventually creating a whole asset library and multiple creatures specifically made for Stressjam that are being used to this day.

Stress lessons

For my graduation from the study of Communication & Multimedia Design (May 2022 - Sep. 2022), I managed a project for Jamzone.

This storytelling puzzle game will learn high-schoolers about the subject of stress. Through the help of friends and classmates, you make sure the character you follow gets out of nasty situations.

 

In short, a serious game based on the book ‘Stronger with Stress' by Kelly McGonigal where you could think of it as a telltale game with stressful choices made by the player.

The story is about you! As a high-schooler, you go on a school trip to the Ardens. Here you meet new classmates and form a team with them. You will be doing different challenges during this week, and within them experience certain stressful situations like getting lost in the forest. 

The class decides what the character will do and with that directs a response that will show on a big screen in front of the class. The teacher will explain afterward what choices have been made and why they happened.

 

In other words, you will learn about your own stressful choices without needing a real-life situation for it and have a fun lesson in return!

Do you remember jumping from shadow to shadow? this game makes it a reality.

 

I am happy to have worked as an intern on the game SCHiM as a character designer and 3D artist. Working with Ewoud van der Werf and the Extra Nice team was a great learning experience!

Furthermore, the game gained a lot of traction during the time I had my internship (Aug. 2020 - Feb. 2021) on Reddit hitting the front page.

The challenge in designing the characters came down to fit the style SCHiM has while that was still in development back then. 

Glad to see how great the game is doing by now and still going strong every day!

During the Tokyo game show, Ewoud even managed to get the audience and gamedesign rewards for his game. 

In the end, it is about experiencing your childhood again through this game!

A survival, horror first-person game developed by Extra Nice. The player has to explore a creepy subway station to rescue their bunny, who was kidnapped by an evil clown. 

The game is based on a song called "Tomorrow" by Singapore-based musician Jaye. The main character in the game is a clown portrayed as Jaye.

I created the character for Tomorrow and after the process, which was a big learning experience, I was stoked to hear the positive response from Jaye himself after he saw the game!

Grendel Games Water Battle game

This is the water battle puzzle game. By transporting water collected by the machines to the right places, you help save water and can continue on to the next level. 

This was both a concept used by Grendelgames for ideas and a promotion at school to start saving water.

I made the assets and textures for the game and used the design thinking method to efficiently get to the concept. Eventually from the core of 'saving water,' you literally have to save enough of the water during a level in order to get to the next one.

It was interesting and challenging to create metal textures in the handpainted style I am used to since I mostly make fantasy and medieval-style textures.

8D Games Missie Masters

The 8D Games spy boardgame is fun and exciting for everyone involved, once you play the game you can't sit still! 

When it's your turn you take a mission card from the spy master you are standing on and do the task! This is where you have to show how good of a spy you actually are since the task allows you to do the exercise multiple times (until a total of 5 points/steps). 

Production wise the board has been 3D printed and painted, where the tiles got their own design relating to the already existing style. 

The game's purpose is to get children to exercise more, so what better than having fun playing games and getting in shape, all at the same time!

KiemKr8 Accommodation

This accommodation is a design made to inspire and excite new businesses.

KiemKr8 is a place where innovating businesses can learn to partner up and create for their own growth. The accommodation is meant as an inspirational place where business teams can gather and figure out where they want to go. 

The creative process of making a maquette to represent the outside facilities of this accommodation was very intuitive, using different methods like 3D printing, material craft, and other building techniques. 

Eventually, this concept was used as inspiration for KiemKr8 and their further progress in building the accommodation.
